We can find the equation of the line passing through (-1,3) & (4,-2) by ‘2 Points form’, ie 
y-y1/y2-y1 = x-x1/x2-x1.
That is, x + y – 2= 0.
As this line passes through point (a,b), x=a & y=b satisfies its eqn.
Thus a + b – 2=0
Hence a + b = 2.
