May be its other methods also. But it can also be solved by expanding
As it will be a simple bi-quadratic equation.

(x^2-6x)^2= 81+2(x-3)^2
(x^2-6x)^2-9^2= 2(x-3)^2
(x^2-6x+9)(x^2-6x-9)= 2(x^2-6x+9)
So x=3 or x^2-6x-11=0 which you can easily find the roots by using quadratic formula
