Is addition of a scalar to a matrix possible?

If yes, Please explain...

Addition of a scalar to a matrix is not possible. A matrix can be added only to another matrix of same order. However multiplication of a scalar with a matrix is possible. In that, the scalar is multiplied to each element of the matrix.
