Dear vardaan

exact difinition is "greatest integer less than or equal to x"

now lets analysise this difinition.....

suppose we have x= 9.8

now write all the intieger less than 9.8  ,it will be  9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1,0,-1,-2.........( second half of the difinition ,"less than or  equal to x")

now answer will be gretest among the above written intiger , ie = 9 ( first half of the difinition ," greatest intiger")

so in short we can write  [9.8] =9
