let the value of the given expression be 'k',(x^2 +34x -71)=k(x^2 +2x-7),this is a quadratic equation in 'x', if x is real the discriminant is non-negative,this condition will yield an inequality involving a function of k, solving this inequality will yield the range of possible values of k, and hence the expression
