Dear student,

Balmer series consists of those spectral lines in which a transition takes place from higher energy state to n=2. Hence the possible balmer lines are6\rightarrow 2,5\rightarrow 2,4\rightarrow 2,3\rightarrow 2
Hence there are 4 lines.

Pfund series consists of those spectral lines in which a transition takes place from higher energy state to n=5 Hence the possible balmer lines is6\rightarrow 5
Hence there is only 1 line.
