l^2=a^2+y^2

Differentiating with respect to time,

2l\dfrac{dl}{dt}=0+2y\dfrac{dy}{dt}
\implies l.u=y.v
\implies v=u\dfrac{l}{y}=\dfrac{u}{cos\theta}
