To prove this, we need to use the constraint relation.

Taking the distance from the fixed point in the directions shown as $x_1,x_2,x_3$ ,

we have $x_1+2x_3+x_2=constant$

Differentiating the expression with respect to time,

$-a_1+2a_3+a_2=0$
$\implies a_3=\dfrac{a_1+a_2}{2}$
