A certain metal when irradiated with light (v=3.2×10^16 Hz) emits photo electrons with twice kinetic energy as did photo electrons when the same metal is irradiated by light (v=2.0×10^16 Hz). Calculate v0( v not) of electron?

Dear student,

From Einstein’s equation of photoelectric effect,

KE_{max}=h\nu-h\nu_0

SinceKE_{max}_1=2KE_{max}_2
\implies h(\nu_1-\nu_0)=2h(\nu_2-\nu_0)
\implies \nu_0=2\nu_2-\nu_1=8\times 10^{-15}Hz
