Alkaloid colchicine (produced by many plants of family Liliaceae) inhibits the micro tubules to assemble to form spindle fibers. Therefore, alkaloid colchicine interferes with mitosis and chromosome segregation and the cell division is arrested at metaphase in presence of colchicine
