Dear student 
1/2 Kx^2 - 1/2 ky^2 =mew *mg (x+y)
x^2 - y^2 = 2mew*mg (x+y)/k = 0.4 
Also , x+y = 8m 
=> x-y =0.05 
So, x = 4.025 m
