While diluting a solution of salt in water, a student by mistake added acetone (boiling point 56o C). What technique can be employed to get back the acetone?

Dear student,
 
Fractional Distillation can be used to separate acetone from the mixture of salt and water. There are considerable differences in the boiling points of acetone (56°C) and water (100°C).
