The ice cubes start melting and after some time melting stops.This is due to the stage of equilibrium attained.In starting the molecules of ice were only changing the phase solid into liquid water .But after the equilibriium is attained,
Molecules from the water collide against ice and sticks to it and some molecules from ice escape into liquid phase
.Thus there is no change in mass of ice and water  as the rate of change of transfer of molecules from ice 
into water and of reverse transfer of water into ice are equal.This is in the case of closed system as stated in thermodynamics. THANKS
