Ions- These are charged species formed by the gain or loss of electrons by atoms.Example:Na+, Cl-
Valency- It is the combining capacity of an atom.It is equal to the number of valence bonds an atom can form with other atoms.Example:the valency of Cu in CuCl2is 2, since it has formed two valence bonds with 2 chlorine atoms.
