take the case of car a
s=96 m
u=10 m/s
a=2 m/s^2
to find t ,use equation s=ut+1/2 at^2
96=10t+t2
t2+10t-96=0 ,solving this quadratic equation we get t=6 seconds.
car a need 6 seconds to complete 96 m here
Now take the case of car b
s=96 m
u=4 m/s
a=4 m/s2
here 96=4t+2t^2
solving equation we get t=6 seconds.
Since car a and car b need 6 seconds they both reach at same time. the match will become a tie.
