Infrasound refers to sound waves with frequencies below the lower limit of human hearing, typically less than 20 Hz. While humans cannot hear infrasound, some animals have the ability to perceive it.
• A. Dog:
Dogs have a hearing range that extends to higher frequencies than humans, typically between 40 Hz and 60 kHz. While they can hear higher-pitched sounds that humans cannot, they are not capable of hearing infrasound (which is below 20 Hz).
• B. Bat:
Bats are known for their ability to use echolocation, emitting and listening for ultrasonic sounds. Their hearing range is much higher than that of humans (typically 20 kHz to 100 kHz), but they cannot hear infrasound.
• C. Rhinoceros:
Rhinoceroses, especially African elephants, are known to use infrasound for communication over long distances. In fact, they can hear frequencies as low as 1-2 Hz. So, rhinoceroses are among the animals that can perceive infrasound.
• D. Human beings:
Humans cannot hear infrasound as it falls below the threshold of human hearing (20 Hz). We can only hear sound frequencies within the range of approximately 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
C. Rhinoceros is the animal that can hear infrasound.
Some other animals, like elephants, whales, and certain species of birds, also use infrasound for communication or navigation.
