how is kinetic energy constant in elastic collision in simple words

In a collision, the momentum is conserved and specifically for elastic collision the kinetic energy is conserved too because the objects which are undergoing collision are able to absorb energy during the collision and give the same amount of energy back after the collision hence the kinetic energy is conserved.
