Elements are the purest form of a chemical substance and arecomposed of onlyone type of atoms or we can say that all of the atoms in an element have the same number of protons.For ex-Al,Na,S,P etc.Elements are further divided as metal,non-metals and metalloids.
A chemical compound is composed of at least two or more different types of elements.These elements are combined together in fixed proportions by mass.For ex--water(H2O) is a compound of hydrogen and oxygen which are present in the ratio of 1:8 by mass.Similarly in CO2,carbon and oxygen are present in the ratio of 3:8 by mass.When a compound is formed,the constituent elements lose their properties.For ex-hydrogen is combustible and oxygen is supporter of combustion but water is neither combustible nor supporter of combustion rather it puts off fire.
