According to work energy theorem, the work done in stopping the bus will be equal to change in its kinetic energy
Conerting units, 36 km/hr = 10 m/s
Initial kinetic energy = ½ x m x v2
                                 = ½ x 1000 kg x (10 m/s)2
                                 = 50000 Joules
Final kinetic energy = 0

Work done = | Change in kinetic energy | = 50000 J
