Dear student,

A small amount of sulphuric acid is added which stops the hydrolysis of copper sulphate. From that solution, copper sulphate pentahydrate is crystallized leaving behind the impurities. Then the solution is filtered to obtain the pure crystals of copper sulphate pentahydrate.
