Diploid is the condition when the nucleus contains two complete sets of chromosomes (each set will be derieved from each parent). For example: The nucleus of somatic cells

Haploid cells are those cells which contains only single set of chromosomes from either of the parents. For example: The nucleus of gamets (sperm or egg).
