It is observed that when lead nitrate Pb(NO3)2 is added to the potassium iodide (KI) solution,a yellow ppt. of lead iodide,PbI2 is formed.The balanced equation for this reaction is as follows-
Pb(NO3)2 + 2KI ----> PbI2 + 2KNO3
When the lead ions and iodide ions,they react to form solid yellow ppt. of lead iodide,PbI2 which precipitates out of solution and potassium nitrate remains in the solution.This reaction is an example of double-displacement reaction.
