Biogeochemical cyclesare pathways for the transport and transformation of matter within four categorical areas that make up planet Earth (biosphere, hydrosphere, lithosphere, and the atmosphere).

Plants through photosynthesis fixes carbon in their body. Some microorganims fix nitrogen in the roots of the plants. Animals tae carbon and nitrogen fron plants only.

When plants and animals die the microorganisms decompose these dead bodies and transfer the carbon and nitrogen back to the soil.
