Can viruses respire. If yes how they respire when they are inactive, floating in air or settled on the door knob they are non living and non living thing donot respire and respiration neccessary for survival.

They are non living outside. They need host like bacteria, human beings to become active. Basicall they use machinery of other organisms to reproduce. Outside host they cant reproduce or work like living organisms.
