Dear Student

When term have the same algebraic factors, they are like terms.
Then,
= 3y^2+ 5y–4–8y + y^2+ 4
= 3y^2+ y^2+ 5y–8y–4 + 4
= y^2(3 + 1) + y (5 - 8) + (-4 + 4)
= y^2(4) + y (-3) + (0)
= 4y^2–3y

Thanks
