note that angle AEB= angle DEC
angle BAE= angle CDE (bcoz by angles on the same segment theorem, angle BAC= angle CDB and angle BAC= angle BAE and angle CDB= angle CDE)
hence, by AA similarity criterion, we have 
tri AEB similar to tri DEC
or AE/DE= AB/DC
2/4= AB/DC
or AB= ½ DC
