Hello student,
A metal is a material(an element, compound, or alloy) that is hard when in solid state, opaque, shiny, and has good electrical and thermal conductivity. Metals are generally malleable—that is, they can be hammered or pressed permanently out of shape without breaking or cracking—as well as fusible(able to be fused or melted) and ductile(able to be drawn out into a thin wire).
Metals have these typical physical properties:
1.Lustrous (shiny)
2. Hard.
3. High density (are heavy for their size)
4. High tensile strength (resist being stretched)
5. High melting and boiling points.
6. Good conductors of heat and electricity.
Some examples are;
Alkali metals
lithium
sodium
potassium
rubidium
caesium
francium
Alkaline earth metals
beryllium
magnesium
calcium
strontium
barium
radium
