According to your question , the higher reactive functional group is required, and carboxylic acid functional group having higher reactive hydrogen atoms are given more preference over sulphonic acid.

carboxylic acid has COOH group as its functional group so it has most preference .

carbon has a unique property called catenation due to which it can combine with any group to form long chains.
