A sepal is a part of the flower of angiosperms (flowering plants). Usually green, sepals typically function as protection for the flower.

Flowers with joined sepals — Hibiscus, datura, cotton, tomato (anyone). Flowers with separate sepals — mustard, lotus, lily, jasmine, rose (anyone).
