The dirt particles that are present in the pulses are removed by washing the latter with water. Being heavier, the pulses settle down, while the dirt particles being lighter keep floating in water. This process is called sedimentation. The dirty water can be removed by the method of decantation, leaving the pulses at the bottom.

by winnowing,it is the process of seperating lighter components from heavier çomponents by blowing air and by the help of wind.it is usually used by farmers to seperate lighter husk particles and heavier grains, pulses.

Husk or dirt with particles are separated from a sample of pulses by putting it in water. The husk or dirt particles float on the surface of the water as they are light and the pulses are heavy so they settle down in the water. This process is sedimentation. The dirty water can be poured into another container by the process of Decantation.
