Here, the numerators are same. So, the fraction having lesser denominator is the greater
∴1 / 2 > 1 / 5

Dear Student,
 
Here, denominator is unequal, let's make it equal,
1/2 and 1/5 
Taking LCM to be 10,
5/10 and 2/10
 
Now, comparing, 5/10 > 2/10
 
Therefore, 1/2 > 1/5
