The primary reason why bulbs are filled with chemically inactive gases such as nitrogen or argon is to prevent oxidation of the tungsten filament.
When a bulb is heated, the tungsten filament becomes very hot. If it were filled with oxygen, the high temperature would cause the tungsten to oxidize and burn out quickly. In order to protect the filament from oxidation, the bulb is filled with inert gases like nitrogen or argon, which do not react with tungsten at high temperatures.
Answer:
The correct answer is A) To prevent oxidation of tungsten filament.
