The function of a voltmeter is to measure the electrical potential difference, also known as voltage, between two points in an electrical circuit. Voltage is a fundamental electrical parameter that represents the difference in electric potential energy per unit charge between two points.

A voltmeter is typically connected in parallel across the component or section of the circuit for which you want to measure the voltage. When connected, the voltmeter reads the voltage drop across the two points it is connected to, and this reading is displayed on the voltmeter's screen.

There are two main types of voltmeters:

Analog Voltmeter: This type of voltmeter uses a moving pointer or needle on a calibrated scale to indicate the voltage value. The scale may have different ranges to accommodate various voltage levels.

Digital Voltmeter: In a digital voltmeter, the voltage reading is displayed numerically on a digital screen. These meters provide a more precise and easy-to-read measurement compared to analog voltmeters.

Voltmeters are essential tools for diagnosing electrical problems, checking battery voltages, measuring the voltage across electronic components, and ensuring the proper functioning of electrical systems in various applications, including household circuits, automotive systems, electronics, and more. They help electricians, engineers, and hobbyists understand and work with electrical circuits safely and effectively.
