Amplitude modulation (AM) is a modulation technique used in various applications. Here are some of the key applications of amplitude modulation:

Broadcasting: AM is widely used for broadcasting radio signals. AM radio stations transmit audio signals by modulating the amplitude of a carrier wave. The receiver then demodulates the signal to retrieve the original audio.

Two-Way Radio Communication: AM is also used in two-way radio communication systems, such as citizen band (CB) radios. These radios use AM modulation to transmit voice signals over short distances.

Aircraft Communications: In aviation, AM is employed for aircraft communications, particularly in the high-frequency range. This includes air traffic control communications, aircraft-to-aircraft communication, and ground-to-aircraft communication.

Amateur Radio: Amateur radio operators, also known as "ham" radio operators, use AM modulation for voice communication. It is one of the modulation methods allowed in the amateur radio frequency bands.

Public Address Systems: AM modulation is utilized in public address systems, such as those found in stadiums, theaters, and public spaces. It enables the distribution of audio signals over long distances.

Radio Navigation: AM is used in certain radio navigation systems, like Non-Directional Beacons (NDBs). NDBs transmit radio signals with specific AM frequencies to assist aircraft and ships in navigation.

Radar Systems: In some radar systems, AM is employed to encode and transmit information. For example, the Instrument Landing System (ILS) used in aviation navigation uses AM to transmit guidance signals to aircraft during landing.

Telemetry: AM modulation is used in telemetry systems for transmitting data over long distances. It allows the measurement and remote monitoring of various parameters, such as temperature, pressure, and fluid levels.

Wireless Power Transfer: AM modulation techniques can be applied to wireless power transfer systems. By modulating the amplitude of the power signal, energy can be transmitted wirelessly and received by devices equipped with appropriate receivers.

Audio and Video Transmission: In certain cases, AM is used for transmitting audio and video signals. However, due to its limited bandwidth, AM is less commonly used for high-fidelity audio or high-resolution video transmission compared to other modulation techniques like frequency modulation (FM) or digital modulation.

These are just some of the many applications of amplitude modulation. The versatility of AM makes it a widely used modulation technique in various fields of communication and broadcasting.
