Tracing paper is considered translucent, not transparent. Translucent materials allow some light to pass through them, but they scatter the light in such a way that objects on the other side are not clearly visible. Tracing paper is designed to diffuse and soften the light that passes through it, making it ideal for tracing and copying images without the need for intense backlighting. It provides a level of opacity that is useful for these purposes while still allowing some light to transmit through. In contrast, transparent materials, like glass or clear plastic, allow light to pass through without significant scattering or distortion, enabling you to see objects clearly on the other side.
