To find the odds in favor and odds against, you need to understand the concept of probability and how it relates to odds.

Probability is a measure of the likelihood of an event occurring and is expressed as a value between 0 and 1. Odds, on the other hand, compare the likelihood of an event occurring to the likelihood of it not occurring.

To calculate the odds in favor, you divide the probability of the event occurring by the probability of the event not occurring. The formula for odds in favor is:

Odds in Favor = Probability of the Event occurring / Probability of the Event not occurring

To calculate the odds against, you divide the probability of the event not occurring by the probability of the event occurring. The formula for odds against is:

Odds against = Probability of the Event not occurring / Probability of the Event occurring

Let's look at an example to illustrate these calculations:

Suppose you're rolling a fair six-sided die, and you want to find the odds in favor and odds against rolling a 3.

The probability of rolling a 3 is 1/6 because there is one favorable outcome (rolling a 3) out of six possible outcomes (numbers 1 to 6 on the die).

The probability of not rolling a 3 is 5/6 because there are five outcomes (1, 2, 4, 5, and 6) that are not favorable.

Now we can calculate the odds:

Odds in Favor = (1/6) / (5/6) = 1/5

Odds against = (5/6) / (1/6) = 5/1 = 5

So, the odds in favor of rolling a 3 are 1 to 5, and the odds against rolling a 3 are 5 to 1.

Remember that odds are often expressed in the form of a ratio (e.g., 1:5) or as a fraction (e.g., 1/5), and they represent the relative likelihood of an event occurring compared to not occurring.
