The oxidizing electrode is the anode. In an electrochemical cell, oxidation occurs at the anode. During oxidation, a species loses electrons, which means it is being oxidized. This loss of electrons results in an increase in the oxidation state of the species or a decrease in its negative charge.

Conversely, reduction occurs at the cathode, where electrons are gained. So, while the cathode is where reduction (gain of electrons) happens, the anode is where oxidation (loss of electrons) occurs.
