Molecular Solid Example: Dry Ice (Solid Carbon Dioxide)
Dry ice is a well-known example of a molecular solid. It is composed of individual carbon dioxide (CO2) molecules held together by weak van der Waals forces. In the solid state, these molecules are arranged in a lattice structure. Dry ice is commonly used for cooling purposes and creates the characteristic "smoke" or sublimation effect when it transitions directly from a solid to a gas.

Ionic Solid Example: Sodium Chloride (Table Salt)
Sodium chloride, commonly known as table salt, is a classic example of an ionic solid. It is composed of positively charged sodium ions (Na+) and negatively charged chloride ions (Cl-) held together by strong electrostatic interactions. These ions form a repeating 3D lattice structure in which each positive ion is surrounded by several negative ions and vice versa. Sodium chloride has a high melting and boiling point due to the strong forces between the ions.
