The use of AC (Alternating Current) voltage is preferred over DC (Direct Current) voltage for the following reasons:
1. Ease of Transmission and Distribution:
AC voltage can be easily transformed to higher or lower voltages using transformers. High voltage is used for long-distance transmission to reduce power losses due to resistance in the transmission lines. Once the electricity reaches its destination, the voltage can be reduced to safer, usable levels for households or industries. This ability to adjust voltage levels efficiently makes AC more practical for large-scale power distribution.
2. Economical and Efficient Generation:
AC generators (alternators) are simpler, more robust, and more cost-effective compared to DC generators. Additionally, AC power systems are easier to maintain and have fewer losses compared to DC systems over large distances.
