The primary function of a screw is to convert a rotational force (torque) into a linear force (axial or linear motion) along its axis. Screws are simple machines that consist of a threaded shaft (the screw) and a matching threaded hole or nut. When you apply a turning force (torque) to the screw, it moves along its axis, either driving it into a material or pulling it out, depending on the direction of rotation.

One common use of screws is to fasten two or more objects together. For example, screws are used in construction to join materials like wood, metal, or plastic. They are also used in assembling furniture, electronics, machinery, and countless other applications where a secure and removable connection is needed. Screws come in various shapes and sizes, each designed for specific purposes, such as wood screws, machine screws, self-tapping screws, and many more.
