Momentum is a vector quantity. It has both magnitude and direction. The momentum of an object is defined as the product of its mass and velocity. Since velocity is a vector quantity (it has both magnitude and direction), momentum inherits those vector properties. In a linear system, the direction of momentum is the same as the direction of velocity.
