Definition of Frequency and Periodic Time
1. Frequency (ff):
Frequency is the number of complete cycles or oscillations per unit time. It is measured in Hertz (Hz), where 1 Hz = 1 cycle per second.
2. Periodic Time (Time Period) (TT):
The periodic time (or simply time period) is the time taken to complete one full cycle or oscillation. It is measured in seconds (s).
Mathematical Relation Between Frequency and Periodic Time
Frequency and time period are reciprocal of each other and are related by the formula:
f=1Tf = \frac{1}{T}
or equivalently,
T=1fT = \frac{1}{f}
where:
• ff = Frequency (in Hz or cycles per second)
• TT = Time period (in seconds)
Conclusion:
• Higher frequency means a shorter time period (more cycles in a given time).
• Lower frequency means a longer time period (fewer cycles in a given time).
• The relation between frequency and time period is given by f=1Tf = \frac{1}{T}.
