Unsaturated hydrocarbons are more reactive than saturated hydrocarbons due to the presence of double or triple bonds between carbon atoms. These multiple bonds contain π (pi) electrons, which are more loosely held than σ (sigma) electrons in single bonds. This makes the π electrons more available for participating in chemical reactions, rendering unsaturated hydrocarbons more reactive.
