The second ionization energy of sodium (Na) is the energy required to remove a second electron from a singly charged ion (Na⁺) to form a doubly charged ion (Na²⁺). For sodium, this value is significantly higher than the first ionization energy because the second electron is removed from a stable, closed-shell configuration (the Ne-like configuration, 1s² 2s² 2p⁶).

The second ionization energy of sodium is approximately 4562 kJ/mol.
