Tin (Sn) commonly exhibits two oxidation states:

+2 (Stannous) - This is the lower oxidation state of tin. In this state, tin loses two electrons and forms compounds like tin(II) chloride (SnCl₂) or tin(II) sulfate (SnSO₄).

+4 (Stannic) - This is the higher oxidation state of tin. In this state, tin loses four electrons and forms compounds like tin(IV) chloride (SnCl₄) or tin(IV) oxide (SnO₂).

Both oxidation states are important in various chemical reactions and industrial applications.
