A rubber band is indeed solid, but it is also flexible and elastic. Its ability to change shape is one of its defining characteristics. When not under tension, a rubber band typically appears in a circular or oblong shape. However, when stretched or manipulated, it can take on various forms depending on the force applied to it.

Rubber bands are made from rubber, a polymer material known for its elasticity. When stretched, the polymer chains within the rubber band align and straighten out, allowing it to expand. When the stretching force is released, the polymer chains return to their original state, causing the rubber band to contract back to its original shape.

So, while a rubber band is solid, its flexibility and elasticity allow it to change shape easily under the influence of external forces.
