Water (H2O) is a covalent compound. It consists of two hydrogen atoms (H) bonded to one oxygen atom (O) through covalent bonds. In a covalent bond, atoms share electrons to form a stable molecule. In the case of water, the oxygen atom shares electrons with two hydrogen atoms to achieve a stable electron configuration. This sharing of electrons is what makes water a covalent compound, not an ionic one.
