Atoms combine through chemical bonding, which occurs when atoms interact with each other to form compounds or molecules. There are three main types of chemical bonds:

Ionic Bonds: Ionic bonds form when one atom transfers electrons to another atom, resulting in ions (charged particles) that are attracted to each other due to their opposite charges. For example, sodium chloride (NaCl) forms when sodium (Na) loses an electron to chlorine (Cl), forming Na⁺ and Cl⁻ ions that attract each other.

Covalent Bonds: Covalent bonds form when atoms share electrons to achieve a more stable electron configuration. This type of bonding is common in molecules like water (H₂O), where hydrogen atoms share electrons with an oxygen atom.

Metallic Bonds: Metallic bonds occur in metals, where positively charged metal ions are surrounded by a "sea" of delocalized electrons. These electrons are free to move throughout the metal structure, leading to properties such as electrical conductivity and malleability.
