Helium and neon both belong to the noble gases group in the periodic table. The key feature they have in common is their electronic configuration. Both helium and neon have full outer electron shells, which makes them very stable and largely unreactive.

Helium (He) has 2 electrons, filling its 1s orbital.
Neon (Ne) has 10 electrons, with its electron configuration ending in a filled 2p orbital (1s² 2s² 2p⁶).
This full outer shell configuration is what contributes to their chemical inertness.
