Atmolysis refers to the process of separating gases from a mixture using a semipermeable membrane. This technique exploits the principle of selective permeability, where certain gases are allowed to pass through the membrane more readily than others based on their size, solubility, or other properties.

In atmolysis, a mixture of gases is introduced to one side of the membrane, while a vacuum or a different gas is maintained on the other side. The membrane allows certain gases to pass through more easily, effectively separating the mixture into its constituent gases.

This process is commonly used in various industrial applications such as gas purification, separation of components in gas mixtures, and in the production of high-purity gases for specific industrial processes. Atmolysis is also utilized in laboratory settings for gas analysis and separation.
